Is there anything better than a creamy pear compote with a crispy crumble and nuts? When pears are in season, it’s the perfect time to invite your guests over to enjoy this delicious dessert together. This recipe does not meet the whole grain label requirements, but it is a way to include more whole grains in your everyday diet.

Ingredients

  • 4 pears
  • 50 g whole grain flour
  • 50 g wheat flour
  • 50 g oats
  • 50 g chopped almonds
  • 90 g raw sugar
  • 125 g cold butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 tsp. vanilla powder (or the seeds from 1 vanilla bean)
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Instructions

  • Grease a tart pan with a little butter. Cut the pears into bite-sized pieces and spread them evenly in the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle cinnamon over the pears.
  • Crumble the butter together with the two types of flour, oats, chopped almonds, sugar, and vanilla powder. It should form a loose mixture, without any large chunks of butter.
  • Pour the crumble mixture over the pears and bake in the oven at 175°C (fan/ convection) for about 25 minutes.
  • The pears should be completely tender, and the crumble should be lightly golden – then it’s done.
  • Tip: You can use all kinds of fruits and berries for a crumble; apples, peaches, blueberries, rhubarb, and more.
